please don't run away
(Psalm 145:18)
please let me tell you ‘bout my past, it was really bad! i remember all the tears and the chains i had… around my neck, around my heart, and around my soul. i lived my life, but it wasn’t me that had control. i remember so much hatred that was bound within… and i remember being bound by pornographic sin. there were so many days, and o so many nights, when i hated myself, and hated my own life. and i remember all the pain and hurt of loneliness, and i remember struggling with feelings of hopelessness… nobody understood me, nobody else was there… to truly understand me, or truly seem to care. and i remember deep depression and the fear inside. and i remember thinkin’ thoughts of death and suicide… nobody else could help me, nor could i save myself – who could forgive my sins, and heal my heart and mental health?
open your heart to Him, Jesus loves you!
He’s knocking – let Him in! please don’t run.
He can forgive your sins – now – because you
repent and turn to Him… please don’t run away!
and i remember when, i heard about His truth - and i remember when He reached out to this youth (me). i heard about His judgment, and i knew i was done… i knew that i was guilty, for the death of His Son! but i heard of His love, and that He could forgive; He didn’t want me in Hell - He wanted me to live with Him eternally! His Blood could wash away all of my sins and pain; o what a happy day! Jesus He loved me, though i was His enemy i didn’t love Him first, but Jesus first loved me! His grace broke through my darkness, He conquered me by love. He changed my future from eternal hell to life above!
and i'm not perfect now, i still have miles to go… but i have joy within, He loves me: this i know! i only hope you see, how Jesus cries to you – o please respond to Him, and turn to Him so True!
i don’t know what you’re thinkin’, when all my words you read... perhaps think i condemn you? (i don’t.) maybe you think i'm weak? (i am.) i don’t know all you’ve done, or all that you’ve been through. but what i truly know, is that i care for you! i see that God is knocking, beckoning you to come o how i plead with you: from Jesus please don’t run He knows you better than you even know yourself - and all you truly need, is Jesus Christ Himself. i thank God for our friendship, although it’s still quite new – and i am looking forward to better knowing you. this is my heart and hope: to see you loving Him. no matter what life brings you, to keep on trusting Him. God made you in His Image, your value’s beyond price. you are worthy of love, proven by the death of Christ. and may your heart become, the house and home of Jesus -
may you be white as snow, and know His death has freed us!
today is a brand new day – o! so don’t believe the devil’s lies!
about this song:
i wrote this song for a friend of mine; the lyrics are some of the most personal words i've ever put into song. my heart was to share with them some of my testimony - who i was before meeting Jesus, and how amazingly He's changed me since i surrendered my heart to Him. i haven't perfected myself or anything like that, but i stand 100% convinced of the power of Jesus Christ because i know what He did for me. what grieves my heart so intensely is to see my friends going through hard times in their lives and struggle to fully put everything in His Hands; i'm not speaking down to them, for i too wrestle with fully trusting God at times. but if we would only follow Him and commit everything into His Hands: how much easier life would be!
perhaps you have a friend who is struggling in their walk with The Lord, or maybe they've strayed away from Him... may this song encourage you and be passed on to them that hearts might be turned back to Jesus! i'm just one beggar telling other beggars where i found Bread.
as i wrote and recorded this tune for my friend, other friends also came to mind who - for one reason or another - just kind of seemed to walk away from Jesus over the years. perhaps you are one of them, or perhaps you fit that description... or perhaps you're the friend i wrote this song for. i don't condemn you, nor am i here to point the finger at you; i only want to tell you that today is a brand new day, and that The Merciful God is only one heart-turn away. don't believe the devil's lies... The Father does want you back! remember all of David's sins - remember how Peter even denied knowing Jesus - and remember the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15)! Your God is crying out to you to return to Him. remember your First Love! the Scripture says that there's joy in Heaven when a sinner repents. o may Heaven rejoice this day!

why ?
come on, take a look at your life.
think about the past, and about today.
all that hurt so deep inside –
in His Name could all be washed away!
why, why, o why?
His Arms, Outstretched to you!
why, why, o why?
you know that He loves you!
why, why, o why?
His love is never ending!
why, why, o why?
freedom comes when you surrender!
you know your goal won’t satisfy… but still you run.
you know i got to ask you, why flee from The Son?
you know you are not satisfied - you feel the pain…
when all the tears you cry He’d dry if you’d just call His Name.
surrender!
